$17-20/hour, depending on relevant experience and skills About the Role We're looking for a bright, personable, and detail-oriented individual to join our optometry team as an Optometric Technician. This position plays an important role in preparing patients for their examinations and helping our doctor provide efficient, thorough patient care. It can be a great fit for someone with prior optometric or ophthalmic experience, or for a smart, trainable candidate interested in developing strong healthcare skills. Our first priority will be training the person we hire to become proficient and able to work independently in the technician role. Once proficient in the technician role, employees who successfully cross-train and become proficient at the front desk receive an increase in hourly pay reflecting their expanded responsibilities. We are primarily seeking a full-time team member. However, if you have strong relevant experience and are looking for a 3-4 day-per-week schedule, we may be able to consider the right fit. Primary Technician Responsibilities Obtain and accurately document patient medical and ocular histories, medications, surgical history, chief complaints, and other relevant information Perform diagnostic and preliminary testing in preparation for the doctor's examination Analyze eyeglasses and document prescriptions using lensometry Prepare examination summaries and reports for referring doctors Assist with referrals to ophthalmologists and surgical specialists Maintain accurate electronic patient records and manage electronic documents Assist with dispensing eyewear and minor eyewear repairs Help maintain efficient patient flow throughout the office Cross-Training Responsibilities After becoming proficient in the technician role, training will include: Greeting and checking in patients Answering incoming phone calls and assisting patients professionally Scheduling appointments and follow-ups Reviewing patient forms for accuracy and completeness Screening vision insurance eligibility and network participation Assisting with general front-desk and administrative functions Additional cross-training opportunities may be available over time based on aptitude, interest, and practice needs. What We're Looking For Excellent verbal communication skills and accurate written communication Strong computer skills and comfort learning new software and equipment Confidence with basic math Friendly, professional, and comfortable interacting directly with patients Organized, punctual, and detail-oriented Able to learn and follow established clinical and administrative procedures Able to work independently once trained while also working well as part of a small team High school diploma or equivalent Prior optometric, ophthalmic, medical-office, or patient-care experience is a plus, but we are willing to train a strong candidate with the aptitude and attitude to learn. Experience with OfficeMate/Eyefinity is also a plus, but not required. Schedule Full-time, approximately 37-40 hours per week Monday-Friday only Office hours range from 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.; shifts may vary within that range No evenings or weekends Compensation & Benefits Starting pay of $17-20/hour, depending on relevant experience and skills.
