Optician / Cross-Trained Optometric Assistant We are a busy, modern private optometry practice in Germantown, Maryland, seeking a friendly, dependable, and experienced Optician to join our team. This position will primarily focus on optical sales and assisting with front desk responsibilities and optometric technician duties as needed. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with patients, takes pride in providing excellent service, and is comfortable being part of a small team where staff members work together and help in different areas of the practice. Optical Responsibilities Assist patients with frame selection based on fit, prescription, lifestyle, and personal preferences Educate patients about lens materials, designs, coatings, and treatment options Take accurate optical measurements, including PDs and fitting heights Adjust, fit, dispense, and troubleshoot eyeglasses Verify completed eyewear for accuracy and quality Submit and process optical orders Work with vision insurance benefits and explain patient costs Maintain an organized, attractive optical area and frame inventory Provide excellent service throughout the eyewear selection and dispensing process Front Desk Responsibilities Greet and check in patients Answer phones and assist with scheduling appointments Verify demographic and insurance information Collect copays and patient balances Assist with check-out and future appointment scheduling Respond professionally to patient questions and requests Help maintain an efficient flow between the front desk, clinic, and optical Optometric Technician Responsibilities Prepare patients for their examinations and obtain relevant history Perform preliminary testing using equipment such as OCT, retinal photography, iCare tonometry, autorefraction/autokeratometry, and corneal topography Assist with visual acuity and other routine clinical testing Provide contact lens insertion and removal training to patients Clean and prepare examination rooms and equipment Assist the doctors and clinical team as needed to keep patient care running efficiently What We're Looking For Previous optical experience strongly preferred Excellent communication and customer-service skills Comfortable discussing eyewear and helping patients make purchasing decisions Detail-oriented and able to accurately handle measurements, orders, and patient information Reliable, punctual, and professional Comfortable learning new technology and equipment Able to multitask and transition between optical, front desk, and clinical responsibilities A team-oriented attitude and willingness to help wherever needed Why Join Our Practice?
