Duties Perform comprehensive ophthalmic patient examinations, including measuring vital signs, conducting eye refractions, and assisting with ophthalmic diagnostic imaging procedures such as A-scan biometry and tonometry. Operate medical equipment with precision, ensuring proper aseptic technique and adherence to clinical confidentiality policies. Assist with patient intake by collecting medical histories, updating electronic health records (EHR/EMR) while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Conduct ophthalmic assessments such as visual acuity testing, intraocular pressure measurement, and slit-lamp examinations to support diagnosis and treatment planning. Provide direct patient care by explaining procedures, answering questions, and ensuring comfort throughout the examination process. Maintain clinical supplies, clean and calibrate ophthalmic diagnostic equipment regularly, and ensure a safe, organized work environment. Requirements Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant or Technician from an accredited program is required; prior clinic or medical office experience is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology related to the eye, and medical terminology relevant to ophthalmology. Proficiency in operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as A-scan biometry devices and tonometers. Experience with electronic health records (EHR/EMR) management systems and medical records documentation. Ability to perform intake procedures including vital signs collection and patient history documentation accurately. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and maintaining strict patient confidentiality at all times. Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach to direct patient care; ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
