We are a fast paced medical optometry practice that is growing rapidly. Job Summary The Optician assists and educates patients with their selection of eyeglass frames, lenses, and lens enhancements. They are responsible for overseeing all duties in the optical area, including placing orders to maintain inventory, dispensing, and repairs and adjustments for eyeglasses. This position also requires office support and assisting customers with appointments. Sell goods such as contact lenses, spectacles, sunglasses, and other goods related to eyes glasses and contacts. Obtain a patient's previous record, or verify a prescription with the doctor. Measure patients' bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes, using measuring devices. Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit patient needs. Assist patients in selecting frames according to style and color, and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions. Evaluate prescriptions in conjunction with patients' vocational and avocational visual requirements. Determine patients' current lens prescriptions, when necessary, using lensometers or lens analyzers and patients' eyeglasses. Prepare work orders and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses. Verify that finished lenses are ground to specifications. Repair damaged frames. Heat, shape, or bend plastic or metal frames in order to adjust eyeglasses to fit clients, using pliers and hands. Instruct patients in how to wear and care for eyeglasses. Show patients how to insert, remove, and care for their contact lenses. Maintain records of patient's prescriptions, work orders, and payments. Arrange and maintain displays of optical merchandise. Keep accurate records of inventory and reorder as needed. Perform administrative duties such as tracking inventory and sales, submitting patient insurance information, and performing simple bookkeeping.
