Don Knabe Wellness Center (Rancho Research Institute) is seeking a certified adaptive personal trainer/fitness class instructor that will work alongside staff in providing great customer service in our facility devoted towards the promotion of healthy living.
Responsibilities:
helps people with disabilities achieve their fitness goals by creating safe and effective workout programs, and providing motivation and guidance Design personalized programs that account for each client's unique needs and limitation Establish rapport with clients, and communicate with them in person, by phone, and by email Schedule sessions with clients, and be prepared for each session Complete initial interviews and assessments for each client, and keep all documentation secure Serve as a positive role model for clients, and help them with personal hygiene, language, and other socially enhancing behaviors The position requires the ability to demonstrate adaptive exercises and safely operate, adjust, and position fitness equipment. Conduct fitness assessments to identify each participant's abilities, limitations, goals, and appropriate exercise modifications. Develop individualized adaptive exercise and fitness programs based on participant abilities, needs, and goals. Provide one-on-one and small-group adaptive personal training sessions. Safely modify exercises, equipment, positioning, and training techniques for individuals who use wheelchairs, walkers, braces, prosthetics, or other mobility devices. Work with individuals with spinal cord injuries, stroke-related impairments, neurological conditions, amputations, limited range of motion, balance challenges, muscle weakness, and other physical limitations. Demonstrate proper exercise techniques and provide clear, understandable instruction appropriate to each participant. Monitor participants for proper form, positioning, fatigue, discomfort, and other safety concerns; modify activities and intensity as needed. Encourage greater independence, confidence, strength, mobility, and overall physical wellness. Maintain accurate documentation of attendance, fitness goals, activities, progress, and program modifications. Maintain a clean, organized, accessible, and safe fitness environment. Inspect fitness equipment and promptly report damaged, malfunctioning, or unsafe equipment or environmental conditions. Follow RRI and facility safety procedures, confidentiality requirements, participant privacy standards, and applicable policies. Communicate professionally and effectively with participants, families, caregivers, rehabilitation professionals, and RRI staff as appropriate. Recognize concerns that may require medical or clinical evaluation and refer participants to the appropriate healthcare professional or supervisor. Participate in required staff meetings, training, continuing education, and program activities. Perform other related duties as assigned. The employee may frequently be required to stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, and reposition exercise equipment during training sessions. Any physical assistance provided to participants must be performed in accordance with established RRI and facility safety procedures.
Qualifications/skills:
Possesses Adaptive Personal training certification Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification , or ability to obtain certification upon hire. Possesses Personal training liability insurance High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of basic exercise principles, safe exercise practices, and appropriate exercise modifications. Ability to safely demonstrate exercises and operate and adjust fitness equipment. Ability to recognize participant limitations and modify activities while remaining within the professional scope of practice of a personal trainer. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and documentation skills. Ability to work patiently, respectfully, and professionally with individuals with varying levels of physical ability and independence. Ability to maintain participant confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries. Dependability and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with RRI staff and rehabilitation professionals. Successful completion of all RRI-required onboarding, health clearance, background screening, training, and other applicable employment requirements. Possess excellent communication skills Excellent computer skills Excellent customer service skills Proficient in English and Spanish languages Pre-Placement Health Clearance Requirements Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable RRI pre-placement health clearance and employment requirements, which may include: Tuberculosis (TB) screening. Evidence of immunity to measles (rubeola). Evidence of immunity to mumps. Evidence of immunity to rubella (German measles). Evidence of immunity to varicella (chickenpox). Tdap/Td (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis/whooping cough) requirements. Evidence of immunity to hepatitis B. Influenza (flu) vaccination.
COVID-19
vaccination in accordance with current applicable requirements. Documentation meeting the most current applicable definition of

vaccination. Signed declination, when applicable, with acknowledgement of required masking during respiratory virus season. Any additional health clearance, screening, or documentation required by RRI and facility policy.
