Job Description

To provide leadership for group fitness classes in a safe and fun format, while maintaining an organized and professional manner. Under the direction of the Fitness Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead various fitness classes in individual or group settings Custom designs various fitness classes based on needs, ages, and ability levels Remain current on the trends of the industry for which assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
No supervisory responsibility.
INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS
Contacts with the public or employees within the organization in the interest of cooperative work accomplishment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic knowledge and ability to learn: Ability to understand basic group exercise teaching methods; adjust class direction depending on level of fitness; communicate effectively with all participants; establish and maintain effective working techniques. Ability to effectively lead, schedule, assess, and train. Ability to promote and provide quality customer service. Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, community members and the general public. Ability to teach a variety of land group exercise classes; develop appropriate tools necessary to offer quality; and provide a safe environment for all participants.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent. American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) certifications or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
Previous instructional experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duty of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, see, hear and demonstrate manual dexterity.
