A Personal Trainer or Fitness Instructor develops customized exercise and fitness programs for clients. Reviews health and fitness goals, teaches correct and safe exercise technique, monitors progress and provides encouragement for clients. Leads fitness and exercise classes at a community center, club or pool. Teaches aerobics, water, strength building or other exercises and maintains equipment.

Job Description

Position Summary:
Fitness Coach is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team at the Lake Placid, Adirondack Health Medical Fitness Center. The function of the Fitness Coach will be to provide fitness, health and wellness guidance/education to help clients improve their physical condition. Such training will be specific to each individual based on individual goals and desired outcomes. A positive and fun fitness/work environment is something our team strives for; by joining our team you will assist in growing a high quality fitness coaching experience to our special populations and a wide range of other physical needs - from weight loss, to performance training and more. Ultimately, you will work directly with clients who need to address their physical health problems, as well as working alongside other healthcare professionals to ensure your clients receive proper care.
Educational Requirements/ Qualifications/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in exercise science or equivalent experience; advanced education preferred. Certified as an ACSM Personal Trainer or ACE required (Certification may be obtained within 3- 6 months of hire). Knowledge of functional anatomy, basic exercise physiology, human behavior, and emergency procedures. Relevant experience in medical-oriented setting preferred. Ability to establish and carry out accurate and appropriate individualized exercise prescriptions. Work well with multidisciplinary team. Ability to instruct and motivate. Excellent communication skills. Available to work late afternoon shifts and on weekends.
