We are looking for a part-time Therapeutic Riding Instructor who would thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment with experience in equine management, lesson instruction, and general equine knowledge and safety. In addition to excellent communication and interpersonal skills, this candidate will currently hold or be willing to obtain their PATH Intl CTRI within two years of employment (training provided), may have experience working with individuals with disabilities, and/or have a background in teaching recreational horseback riding lessons. While experience in the equine assisted services industry is ideal, candidates with related and relevant equine experience are welcome to apply! Working alongside our Operations Manager and Head Instructor, this person will have a passion for working with horses and people, serving their community through equine assisted services.
Job requirements:
Instruction of beginner through intermediate students with a range of personal challenges, to include walk-trot-canter (English or Western disciplines), jumping/coursework (English), and all required paperwork for their students. Lesson preparation, assessment of equines, volunteer management, tack and equipment safety checks, assisting other instructors as needed before, during and after lessons, parent/guardian communication, and generally ensuring that all lessons are safe and compliant with HSVA policy and procedure. Helping maintain PATH Premiere Accreditation compliance, including facility, administration, equine management and all other standards and paperwork. The candidate will need to learn a working knowledge of PATH standards and the HSVA policies. Assisting in management and training of our volunteers to HSVA policy and procedure (this is not a Volunteer Coordinator position). Daily and routine barn tasks to meet the needs of a large lesson program Many other equine related tasks, participant related needs, and general program support that may come up. Qualifications:
PATH Int'l CTRI or above, or willing to become a CTRI within one year of employment Able to teach several consecutive lessons per day indoor and outdoor all year-round, lift 50lbs, and complete other barn/horse related tasks (cleaning stalls/paddocks, manage hay needs, etc) College Graduate an advantage but not required History of ability to work with diverse groups of people to create a professional and inclusive environment where everyone feels safe and valued. Communicate with instructors, volunteers, students and or their caregivers, regularly and in a professional and courteous manner. Highly organized and able to organize others, especially in a face paced and dynamic work environment Excellent time management skills Excellent use of the English language, spoken and written This position requires the candidate to adapt their experience and background to Healing Strides' philosophies on teaching methodology, equine care and handling, and human-equine interaction in order to provide the most consistent and beneficial experience for our participants/riders, volunteers, and, most especially, our equine partners. Our organization emphasizes correct horsemanship and balanced seat riding, as well as acknowledgement of what each equine contributes to the process. We sincerely believe that our staff, volunteers, and riders should approach working with horses as a process where learning never ends and as we learn, we strive to improve our interactions with our horses and each other.
