Also receives urine samples from patients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Obtains blood specimens through routine technical procedures, including venipuncture, using standard equipment such as tubes, tourniquets, syringes, and needles, in accordance with established protocols. Also receives urine samples from patients. Centrifuges and prepares blood specimens for further laboratory processing and analysis. Assists with Antigen and PCR testing, including swab collection and testing, as required and in accordance with established procedures. Utilizes relevant computer systems, including Microsoft Office, the Hospital Management System, DMS, and other applicable systems, to accurately manage and maintain patient and laboratory data. Verifies patient and specimen information and ensures that appropriate specimens are accurately collected, labelled, and documented according to established protocols. Monitors laboratory stock and supplies, identifies replenishment needs, and provides timely feedback to support efficient operations. Assists with administrative duties, including invoicing, data entry, filing, record keeping, and the preparation and delivery of reports. Performs other related duties as required to support the efficient delivery of laboratory services.
Must be customer service oriented. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal/external partners. Ability to work effectively under stress, to prioritize, multi- task within tight deadlines and respond to changing demands. Ability to use initiative and pay close attention to detail. Ability to make a patient comfortable and at ease. Ability to demonstrate integrity and maintain confidentiality.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Certification in Phlebotomy from a recognized institution. Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a related position. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
OTHER:
Must be able to work a shift system, weekends and public holidays. Experience in a Private health care environment considered an asset.
