Job Description

Orthopedist Trauma Full-Time Opening in Downey $25,000 sign on bonus plus up to $72,000 in additional bonuses during the first three years The Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center Department of Orthopedic Surgery is a close-knit team of 21 surgeons, 19 PAs and over 100 support staff. Together we care for over 400,000 members at a medical center with 900+ physicians, most of whom live in Seal Beach, Long Beach, Huntington Beach, South Bay, Palos Verdes, etc. Potential opportunities for teaching residents from Harbor-UCLA and medical students from the Bernard J. Tyson Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine are also available, as well as PA students from USC. Clinical Duties Most surgeons work a 4 (10-hour) day work week with 2 days each of office and OR, although this varies depending on volume.
Office :
One office location in Downey, open Monday-Friday from 7:30am-5:00pm.
Hospital :
Downey Medical Center has 18 ORs. We are not a trauma-level designated hospital, mostly closed/low energy fractures. We also perform amputations but as technicians only; patients are managed by hospitalists and wound care team.
Ambulatory Surgery Centers :
Our Bellflower medical office building has 8 ORs and is located approximately one mile from the main hospital. Trauma surgeons typically operate in the main hospital in Downey. Trauma Limited opportunity for pelvic/acetabular fracture or limb salvage reconstructive surgery although there are a handful of these cases each year. Vast majority of patients are low energy trauma and/or infections, but there are still plenty of complex fracture cases. Flexibility is an important feature to possess as we routinely hand off cases among the team. Orthopedic trauma surgeons also perform amputations, but do not manage the patients before or afterwards. Workers' compensation/occupational medicine involvement is for surgical treatment only. The orthopedic trauma team consists of an RN coordinator, multiple PAs, and non-trauma orthopedic surgeons. Requirements Fellowship in Trauma Board Eligible if still in training, Board Certified otherwise
Preferred:
Applicants interested in a community hospital-based fracture/infection practice with a balanced practice between the OR and office. Skills/training in reverse total shoulder arthroplasty for proximal humerus fracture would be appreciated. Why choose SCPMG? Salaries are inclusive of incentives depending on skills and competencies and geographic location. Potential premium earnings are based on location. Annual Salary is determined by longevity with the Group and full time equivalent (FTE) work schedule/effort.
