Although every NVA hospital is unique, we all share a commitment to a supportive environment, high-quality medicine, and exceptional service for animals and the people who love them. Vet tech externs will work closely with veterinarians and credentialed veterinary technicians to develop and refine their technical skills. Responsibilities may include assisting with patient restraint, collecting patient histories, supporting physical exams, performing laboratory procedures, assisting with diagnostic imaging, anesthesia monitoring, dentistry procedures, and observing or assisting with surgical cases. Externs will also gain experience in patient care, treatment administration, and hospital workflow. In addition to building clinical and technical skills, veterinary technician externs will have the opportunity to strengthen their communication skills while working with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
