Full Job Description Job Summary:

Per Diem This position functions under the Recreation Therapist II in implementing the treatment program and other therapeutic activity programs which meet the needs and interests of each Patient in the facility. The below Responsibilities and Essential Duties for the Recreation/Activity Therapist Assistant are delegated and supervised by the Recreation Therapist II, Clinical Director, or Director of Social Services. 1. Assist with the implementation of rehabilitation activity groups for patients as needed. 2. Assist in conducting activity groups and services of the rehabilitation Treatment Program, including assessment, treatment planning, and direct treatment services. 3. Demonstrate the quality of verbal reporting and written documentation of Patient involvement and progress in the rehab activity program on a regular basis. 4. Assist in coordinating treatment and unit activities and other rehab services with the overall treatment schedule with other programs in the facility. 5. Assist in coordinating care and work along side multidisciplinary staff, interns, and volunteers. 6. Monitor the order and safety of rehabilitation group rooms and unit areas. 7. Assist with the coordination of services brought into the facility. 8. Provide feedback regarding department and program policy and procedures as often as needed. 9. Assist with documentation in the recreation/activity program 10. Attend multidisciplinary treatment planning meetings 11. Assist with providing individual leisure counseling and discharge planning as needed 12. Assist with documenting group participation in daily group notes or alternative activities 13. Complete data collection for performance improvement activities if needed 14. Keep assigned areas clean, orderly, and safe

Minimum Qualifications:

Education High School diploma Current enrollment as a student in a college/university preferred Current enrollment in classes in occupational, therapeutic recreation, art, music, drama, psychology or related field encouraged Experience Two years of experience treating the mentally ill or inpatient hospital experience. Specialized Skills Ability to interact and communicate both verbally and in writing with seriously and persistently mentally ill Patients, other staff members, physicians, and the public. Demonstrated understanding of psychiatric illness and treatment Knowledge of Title 22, Title 9, Patients Rights and Regulations a plus. Ability to work in fast paced environment Physical Requirements Ability to assist with visually/audibly assessing a Patient's behavior, needs, and level of psychological and physical functioning

License or Certification Valid California Driver's License Potential Job Hazards:

Aggressive Patients Blood and Body Fluid Contact (Category II) Use of specialized rehabilitation equipment (eg. sports equipment, kart sharps, etc)

Safety Precautions Required:

Demonstrated use of Handle with Care. Demonstrated use of Universal Precautions. Demonstrated knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets particular to specialized rehab departmental hazards.
