Job Overview About the role Surgery Center of Long Beach (SCLB) is seeking an experienced Operating Room Circulator Registered Nurse to join our surgical team. The OR Circulator RN is responsible for coordinating and delivering safe, high-quality patient care throughout the perioperative process. The nurse works closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and other members of the clinical team to ensure each procedure is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with facility policies and clinical standards. Responsibilities include preparing the operating room, completing required patient and surgical safety checks, coordinating the surgical team and equipment needs, maintaining accurate intraoperative documentation, supporting infection-prevention and sterile practices, and advocating for the patient throughout the surgical experience. SCLB specializes in orthopedic, spine, and total joint replacement procedures, making this an excellent opportunity for nurses with strong OR experience who are comfortable working in a high-volume, team-oriented ASC environment. Responsibilities Operating Room Nurses provide care and support to patients before, during and after surgery OR Nurses also assist the surgeon and the surgical team in their tasks Circulator report to the Charge RN, ASC Administrator, and Medical Director Able to maintain extensive standing and sitting Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans Conducts pre- and post-operative education Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team Takes and monitors patients' vital signs Ensures that operating on correct patient and the correct procedure is being performed Provides basic, bedside care Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms Preps operating room for patient/procedure Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology Monitors patients' physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their post-treatment home care needs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting During the surgical procedure, OR Nurses can take the role of Assists in positioning, responding to comfort/safety of patient Provides for accurate care and handling of specimens Observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis Observes, checks and monitors all equipment used during surgery to confirm they are running smoothly Completes required intra-operative charting and patient documentation Inventories all items both pre- and post-surgery Assists anesthesiologist as needed Assists surgical technician with instrumentation as needed Physical Requirements Able to maintain extensive standing and sitting. Physically able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds, surgical instrumentation or equipment. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to 100 pounds, which may require pushing, pulling and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. Ability to reach, grasp, use fine finger movement and feel sensation to discern temperature, texture, size and shape. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited nursing program Current nursing license, in good standing with the State licensing board Federal, State credentials current BLS required; ACLS required or obtained within 90 days Hepatitis immunization or documented refusal to be vaccinated Evidence of negative Mantoux or chest x-ray annually (within the past year)
