Responsibilities Prepare pediatric patients for surgery by conducting thorough assessments, including vital signs, medical history review, and physiological evaluations. Administer medications, including anesthesia adjuncts and sedation, following strict aseptic techniques and hospital protocols. Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists during operative procedures within the operating room (OR), ensuring sterile field maintenance and proper instrument handling. Monitor patients' vital signs and physiological responses continuously during surgery using advanced EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic or Cerner. Manage postoperative care by assessing recovery status, managing pain with acute pain management protocols, and providing family education on postoperative care plans. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including anesthesiology to coordinate comprehensive patient care. Document all nursing interventions accurately in medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations. Support special procedures such as IV infusion therapy when necessary. Demonstrate proficiency in pediatric physiology knowledge, airway management, and working with children with developmental disabilities or complex medical needs. Skills Proven experience in pediatric perioperative nursing within ambulatory surgery centers. Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, infection control practices, and sterile processing procedures. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for accurate documentation and patient tracking. Ability to perform advanced patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations. Skilled in medication administration including injections, IV insertion, venipuncture, and medication reconciliation processes. Experience working with children requiring specialized care. Competence in managing acute pain using established protocols. Capable of working effectively in high-pressure situations such as emergency room or ICU settings involving pediatric patients.
