Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Pre-Operative / PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) Registered Nurse to join our vibrant surgical and perioperative team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care before and after surgical procedures, ensuring safety, comfort, and optimal recovery. Your expertise will support a wide range of specialties including ophthalmology, Ortho, Spine, General, Plastics, GYN, Urology and Pain, contributing to a seamless surgical experience for our patients. Responsibilities Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments to evaluate patient health status, including vital signs, medical history, and current medications. Prepare patients for surgery by explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and ensuring proper consent is obtained. Monitor patients closely during the immediate post-anesthesia period in the PACU, managing airway patency, vital signs, and pain levels. Administer medications including IV infusions and analgesics following strict aseptic techniques and hospital protocols. Collaborate with surgical teams to coordinate patient care plans, including specialty procedures such as botulinum toxin treatments or ostomy care. Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, adhering to HIPAA regulations. Respond swiftly to emergent situations like acute pain episodes or airway compromise using critical care response procedures. Assist with diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory specimen collection or imaging requests like sonography or radiology when needed. Pre-op assessments and patient post-op follow up calls. Qualifications Valid RN license with current registration and compliance with state-specific requirements. Proven experience working in perioperative settings such as OR or PACU environments; trauma center experience preferred. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to anesthesia recovery and acute care. Demonstrated ability to perform IV insertions, venipuncture, suturing, catheter care, and aseptic techniques confidently. Critical care experience in ICU or emergency medicine settings is highly desirable; familiarity with Level I/II trauma centers is a plus. Excellent patient assessment skills with the ability to manage acute pain and provide compassionate care for diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges. Knowledge of infection control practices and compliance with NCQA standards for quality healthcare delivery.
