Job Description

As a Medical Surgical Nurse with the American National Red Cross, you will deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to adult patients in a fast-paced medical-surgical setting. In this mission-driven role, you'll assess, plan, and implement individualized care, administer medications, monitor complex conditions, and educate patients and families. You'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, support disaster and surge responses, and uphold strict safety and infection control standards while living the Red Cross values of compassion, service, and inclusion. Responsibilities Deliver direct nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients, including assessments, interventions, and evaluations Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments safely and accurately Develop, implement, and update individualized care plans in collaboration with the care team Monitor patient status, recognize changes in condition, and respond promptly to emergencies Maintain accurate, timely EHR documentation in accordance with Red Cross and regulatory standards Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, discharge instructions, and self-care Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and allied health professionals to coordinate care Uphold infection prevention, patient safety, and quality standards in all clinical activities Support disaster response or surge operations as needed within the Red Cross mission Promote a culture of compassion, diversity, inclusion, and volunteerism in daily practice Required Skills Patient assessment IV therapy and medication administration Wound care and post-operative management Care planning and coordination Electronic Health Records (EHR) documentation Telemetry monitoring Infection control practices Patient and family education Emergency response and triage Interdisciplinary team collaboration
