Job Description
As a Nurse Extern at Encompass Health, you will support inpatient rehabilitation nurses in delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care. Under RN supervision, you'll assist with vital signs, mobility, ADLs, and documentation while observing complex rehab treatments for patients recovering from strokes, brain and spinal cord injuries, and other major illnesses. In our collaborative, patient-centered environment, you'll strengthen core clinical skills, learn interdisciplinary rehab practices, and gain mentorship that prepares you for a successful transition into a professional RN role. Responsibilities Assist RNs with direct patient care in an inpatient rehabilitation setting Obtain and document vital signs, input/output, and patient observations in the EHRSupport patients with activities of daily living, mobility, and safe transfers Follow infection control, safety, and fall-prevention protocols Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and physicians to support rehab care plans Observe complex rehabilitation treatments and interdisciplinary team conferences Communicate changes in patient condition promptly to supervising RNMaintain clean, safe, and organized patient care areas Participate in ongoing training, skills development, and competency checks Uphold Encompass Health standards of compassion, integrity, and patient-centered care Required Skills Vital signs monitoring Patient hygiene and mobility assistance Electronic health record (EHR) documentation Safe patient handling and transfers Infection control practices Basic wound care support Rehabilitation exercise assistance Telemetry and patient observation Communication with interdisciplinary teams Basic medical terminology
