There are currently two hospitals on the Osawatomie campus in

Miami County:

Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) and Adair Acute Care (AAC). Adair Acute Care is about 45-bed facility, certified by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services. All employees are expected to work in a harmonious and cooperative fashion with other staff to provide efficient and effective customer service: to use free time as available to assist other staff in the completion of work assignments and perform other tasks as needed; to contribute to a positive work environment through a positive, helpful, courteous demeanor towards staff, customers, and the general public; and to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct regarding the use of leave, reports to work on time and in the designated fashion. The purpose of the Registered Nurse Educator is to serve the Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) Staff Development, Education and Training Development (SDT) and is responsible for providing education and training to newly hired and existing employees to support the delivery of quality patient care at OSH. The position assists in the development and delivery of educational programs in accordance with applicable Federal and State regulations, nursing practice standards, and agency policies and procedures. Responsibilities include the development and presentation of in-service training and continuing education programs within the facility. The position works closely with the Director of Staff Development and Training as a member of the SDT team to maintain ongoing communication and information sharing regarding department and unit changes, educational needs, and other information relevant to staff development and training. Although safety standards, policies, and procedures are taught, supervised and adhered to, the position involves contact with patients who may be potentially violent, combative, and/or assaultive. Such contact is inherent to the work environment and the nature of the position. Work performance is reviewed and evaluated by the supervisor for adherence to Hospital and Nursing Service policies and procedures, including standards of care, as well as achievement of desired outcomes in daily work practices. Performance is also evaluated through the annual performance evaluation process. The essential functions of this position require physical strength to frequently push, pull, twist, bend, squat, walk, stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or restrain with or without assistance and respond to aggressive resident behavior with specific, trained techniques. Must be able to observe and respond to residents in distress. Osawatomie State Hospital Adair Acute Care is funded by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.

Performance is also evaluated through the annual performance evaluation process. Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Educate new employees and existing staff. Creating lesson plans, and differentiating between program levels to accommodate the level of the enrolled employees. Providing Nursing specific training, assessment, and orientation; educates and completes competency checkoffs with staff. Providing tours for new employees during orientation. Demonstrates nursing practices and technical skills to employees on active patient units, ranging from basic cleaning to medication delivery. Demonstrates proper one on one patient/staff interaction to employees to assist staff in developing rapport with patients so that they may better understand each patient's unique characteristics, notice when something is atypical and better facilates the healing process. Acts as a backup RN if needed.

Qualifications Licensing & Certification :

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the State of Kansas.
