Job Description

Mercy is seeking a dedicated RN - Specialty General Surgery for our Pittsburg facility. In this role, you will provide pre- and post-operative care, manage surgical patients on a general surgery unit, administer medications, monitor vital signs, and coordinate care with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary teams. You will educate patients and families on procedures and recovery, maintain accurate documentation in the EHR, and adhere to evidence-based protocols. Responsibilities Provide pre- and post-operative nursing care to general surgery patients Monitor patient status, including vital signs, pain, and surgical sites Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments per protocol Perform wound care, dressing changes, and drain management Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the EHREducate patients and families on procedures, recovery, and discharge plans Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary teams Follow infection control and safety standards at all times Participate in quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives Support and mentor new staff and nursing students as needed Required Skills Post-operative nursing care Pre-operative assessment General surgery patient management Medication administration Electronic Health Records (EHR) documentation Wound care and dressing changes IV therapy and infusion management Patient and family education Vital signs and hemodynamic monitoring Care coordination with surgical teams
