3003329317-2 Apply for this job now Job Description MedStar Health seeks a Registered Nurse for our Adult Inpatient Psychiatry unit. In this role, you'll provide evidence-based, compassionate care to adults with acute behavioral health needs, performing assessments, administering medications, and monitoring safety in a therapeutic milieu. You'll collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, and therapists, contribute to treatment planning, and support group interventions. Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care to adult inpatient psychiatric patients, including assessments, care planning, and interventions Administer medications, monitor therapeutic responses, and manage side effects in collaboration with psychiatrists Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols, including suicide and self-harm precautions Document patient status, treatment interventions, and progress in the electronic health record accurately and timely Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and contribute to individualized care plans Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and coping strategies De-escalate crises using trauma-informed and therapeutic communication techniques Support group and milieu therapy activities that promote stabilization and recovery Precept and mentor new staff or students as needed and support a culture of continuous learning Adhere to regulatory, ethical, and hospital policies, including infection prevention and quality improvement initiatives Required Skills Psychiatric nursing Mental status assessment Suicide and violence risk assessment Medication administration (psychotropics) Crisis de-escalation techniques Care planning and clinical documentation Electronic Health Records (EHR) Therapeutic communication Patient and family education Interdisciplinary collaboration
