Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated Corrections Registered Nurse to join our healthcare team within a correctional facility environment. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to incarcerated individuals, ensuring their health needs are met with professionalism, compassion, and adherence to regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in acute and chronic care, demonstrate excellent clinical judgment, and be committed to promoting health and safety within a secure setting. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on vulnerable populations through skilled nursing interventions and collaborative care. Duties Provide direct patient care by performing comprehensive assessments, vital sign monitoring, and physical examinations tailored to the correctional population. Administer medications and treatments accurately, including injections, IV infusions, wound suturing, and medication management in accordance with physician orders. Coordinate diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory testing, radiology procedures (including CT scans), and specimen collection while ensuring proper documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems. Manage acute pain and chronic disease conditions, including infectious disease care, trauma medicine, and geriatrics, with a focus on safety and compliance with infection control protocols. Implement triage procedures for urgent medical issues, prioritize patient needs effectively, and facilitate timely referrals to specialty services such as cardiology or ophthalmology when necessary. Maintain detailed medical records following HIPAA regulations and ensure accurate coding using
ICD-10/ICD-9
standards for documentation and billing purposes. Support discharge planning, case management activities, and coordination of long-term care or hospice services for eligible inmates. Ensure aseptic technique during procedures like catheterization or sterile dressing changes while adhering to OSHA standards. Participate in emergency response efforts including critical & intensive care scenarios such as trauma or respiratory distress management. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans that address mental health needs, behavioral health issues, or developmental disabilities. Skills Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth for accurate documentation and patient tracking. Strong clinical skills in areas including suturing, ostomy care, tube feeding management, ventilator support, and dialysis procedures. Experience working with diverse populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, individuals with disabilities or memory care needs. Knowledge of critical care practices including ICU experience, trauma medicine at Level I/II trauma centers, and emergency medicine protocols. Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, physiology understanding, and diagnostic evaluation techniques. Ability to perform venipuncture (phlebotomy), IV insertion/infusion therapy, laboratory specimen processing, and basic life support certification. Understanding of Workers' Compensation law related to occupational health incidents within correctional settings. Excellent communication skills for patient education on health coaching topics such as medication administration or chronic disease management. Commitment to infection control practices and maintaining compliance with NCQA standards for quality healthcare delivery in correctional facilities. Stipends:
$1246 Non-taxable •Offered pay rate will be based on education, experience, and healthcare credentials.
