Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Patient Registration Representative to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will be the first point of contact for patients, responsible for accurately capturing patient information, verifying insurance details, and ensuring seamless registration processes. Your expertise in medical administrative support and proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems will be essential to providing exceptional patient service and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to efficient clinic operations while supporting patients through compassionate communication and meticulous documentation. Duties The Patient Registrar is responsible for ensuring patients have secure access to care by completing accurate registration and pre‑registration for outpatient and inpatient services. This role involves verifying insurance, calculating patient liability (copayments, coinsurance, deductibles), collecting payments, and maintaining compliance with HIPAA and hospital policies. The registrar provides excellent customer service, supports emergency and admitting departments, and ensures timely, efficient, and accurate documentation to meet patient, physician, and hospital needs.
Confidentiality & Compliance:
Safeguard patient health information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policies.
Patient Registration:
Complete timely and accurate registrations and pre‑registrations for emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and OB admitting.
Guest Relations:
Provide hospitable service, greet patients warmly, and use translators when needed to ensure understanding.
Organizational Efficiency:
Prepare paperwork, labels, and forms; manage priorities; complete 20-30 registrations per shift.
Emergency Department Support:
Register patients within 30 minutes post‑screening; initiate Hospital Presumptive Eligibility (HPE) or Uncompensated Care applications when needed.
Admitting & Outpatient:
Handle scheduled patient pre‑registrations, secure copayments, and manage OB procedure scheduling.
Accuracy Standards:
Maintain 95% accuracy in data entry, insurance verification, and consent documentation.
Collections:
Request and process patient payments, set up payment plans, and educate patients on financial responsibility.
Flexibility:
Work across multiple registration departments, adjust schedules, and assist during emergencies.
Teamwork & Customer Service:
Collaborate with staff, respond constructively, and uphold hospital values of respect, dignity, and compassion.
Growth & Improvement:
Participate in performance improvement programs, staff meetings, and ongoing education.
Attendance & Safety:
Adhere to attendance policies, maintain a safe work environment, and complete required health and safety evaluations.
MUST HAVE
1+ yr of Patient Registration/ Admitting experience Recent experience working in hospital Experience in calculating upfront collections with co-pays, and co-insurance Should have minimum High School Diploma and should have a physical copy of the highest education for education verification Knowledge of Insurance Authorization Good knowledge of Hospital Billing Should have valid Driving License to go to off-site locations Strong typing skills 45+ WPM Should have outpatient registration experience (OPD) Should be open to working overtime
Shift Timing:
8:30AM-5PM Weekly schedule: M-F CH1
Pay:
$19.00 - $21.00 per hour
