Job Title:
Patient Care Sitter/Union County Nursing HomePosition Summary:
The Patient Care Sitter provides continuous observation and companionship for residents who require close monitoring for safety, including those who are at risk of falls, elopement, self-harm, or exhibiting behavioral health needs. The sitter works under the direct supervision of Director of Nursing and will report any issues to nursing staff to ensure resident safety and comfort in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Remains with assigned resident at all times unless relieved by appropriate staff.

Maintains constant visual contact with the resident; may not leave the resident unattended.

Observes resident behavior and immediately reports changes, concerns, or unsafe conditions to the nurse.

In order to provide proper observation of the resident, the sitter will refrain from the use of any distracting materials or devices such as books, cell phones, tablets, etc..Maintains a safe environment by mentioning any potential hazards to the nursing staff.

Documents observation notes per nursing home policy.

Demonstrates empathy, patience, and discretion in all interactions.

Follows infection prevention and nursing home safety protocols.

Attends training and in-service education as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to maintain focus and remain alert for long periods.

Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience as a patient care sitter, CNA, or in a healthcare support role.

Familiarity with behavioral health or dementia-related patient care.

Bilingual abilities a plus.

This is a non-clinical role with a focus on resident safety and observation.

Not responsible for medical interventions or clinical decision-making.
