A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. POSITION SUMMARY
(Briefly describe the overall purpose of this position - Why does it exist and how does it contribute to the overall organization?) Responsible for the delivery of respiratory care by performing diagnostic procedures and assessing therapeutic effectiveness of patient plan of care.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
(Use bullets for specific responsibilities) Reviews existing data in patient records and recommends diagnostic procedures based on all available patient information. Collects and evaluates additional pertinent clinical information. Performs procedures and interprets results. Determines the appropriateness of the prescribed respiratory plan of care, recommends modifications where indicated, and participates in the development of the patient plan of care. Selects, assembles, and checks equipment for proper function, operation and cleanliness. Performs quality control procedures. Initiates, conducts, and modifies prescribed therapeutic procedures according to physician prescription. Conducts therapeutic procedures to achieve maintenance of a patient airway including the care of artificial airways; and to achieve removal of bronchopulmonary secretions. Demonstrates ability to deal effectively with assignments, the ability to organize and perform patient care routines, and the ability to utilize available resources. Develops cooperative/therapeutic relationships with patients and/or significant others. Demonstrates the ability to function independently to assure quality patient care and promotes satisfactory productivity. Takes an active role in the department's function by assuming control and following through on assigned responsibilities as well as during emergency situations to assure completion of tasks. Demonstrates the ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations, specifically to young adult, adult and geriatric patient populations.

Must be able to communicate clearly to patients, physicians, co-workers, and visitors in person and over the telephone.

Must be able to accurately document pertinent information either by writing or typing.
Vision:
Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources Physical Environment May perform emergency care following ACLS algorithm Responds to in emergency situations replacement of assignment on short notice. May be exposed to one or more of the following: Potential electrical shock, X-Ray electrical magnetic energy, high pitch noises, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogen. Education High School Graduate. Completion of the Respiratory Therapist Training. . Required licensures/certifications Current Florida Respiratory Therapist license as CRT Current BLS Certification Skills and Abilities Knowledge of respiratory care principles in the care of the adult and geriatric patient. Experience Minimum 1 year experience in acute care setting / hospital preferred.
