Job Description

Piedmont Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Registered Respiratory Therapist to join our team. In this night shift role, you will provide high-quality respiratory care, including assessments, treatments, and education for patients with acute and chronic conditions. You'll collaborate closely with physicians and nursing staff to develop and implement care plans. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive respiratory assessments and develop therapeutic plans for patients on the night shift Administer oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, nebulizer treatments, and other respiratory modalities as ordered Set up, manage, and monitor invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilators, adjusting settings per protocols and physician orders Respond to respiratory-related emergencies, rapid response calls, and codes, assisting with airway management and resuscitation Perform airway clearance techniques, including suctioning and chest physiotherapy, to optimize ventilation and oxygenation Continuously monitor and document patient responses to respiratory therapy, reporting significant changes to the care team Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other disciplines to develop and adjust individualized plans of care Ensure accurate and timely documentation of assessments, treatments, and outcomes in the electronic medical record Maintain, troubleshoot, and safely operate respiratory care equipment, following infection prevention and safety standards Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, use of inhalers and devices, and home-care instructions as appropriate for discharge planning Participate in quality improvement initiatives, competency training, and ongoing professional development to support best practices in respiratory care Support Piedmont Healthcare's culture of respect, teamwork, and patient-centered care during all interactions on the night shift Required Skills Ventilator management (invasive and non-invasive) Respiratory assessment and clinical decision-making Oxygen therapy and aerosolized medication administration Airway management and suctioning Response to codes and rapid response situations Arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and interpretation Pulmonary function and bedside respiratory testing basics Knowledge of COPD, asthma, pneumonia, and acute respiratory failure management Use and maintenance of respiratory equipment (ventilators, Bi PAP/CPAP, oxygen delivery systems) Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation Infection prevention and patient safety practices Interdisciplinary teamwork and communication Patient and family respiratory education Night shift time management and prioritization
