Job Description
Piedmont Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide respiratory care, perform diagnostic tests, manage ventilators, and collaborate with physicians and nurses to optimize patient outcomes. You'll educate patients and families on treatment plans while ensuring safety and quality standards. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and develop individualized therapy plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team Administer oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, airway clearance techniques, and other respiratory treatments according to provider orders and protocols Initiate, manage, and monitor non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation, including ventilator adjustments and weaning trials Obtain and analyze arterial blood gases and other diagnostic data; interpret results and communicate findings to the care team Respond promptly to respiratory-related emergencies, including rapid response and code situations, providing advanced airway management and resuscitative support within scope of practice Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, inhaler techniques, home oxygen use, and disease self-management Ensure proper setup, calibration, operation, and maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment, following infection prevention and safety standards Document all assessments, interventions, patient responses, and education accurately and timely in the electronic medical record Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support care planning, rounds, and safe transitions of care Participate in quality improvement initiatives, competency training, and ongoing professional development activities within Piedmont Healthcare Required Skills Respiratory assessment and care planning Mechanical ventilation management (invasive and non-invasive) Arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation Administration of aerosolized medications and oxygen therapy Airway clearance techniques and airway management Use and maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment Interpretation of respiratory diagnostics (pulse oximetry, capnography, bedside PFTs) Clinical documentation in an electronic medical record (EMR) Participation in codes and rapid response teams Patient and family education on respiratory conditions and therapies Collaboration in an interdisciplinary healthcare team Time management and prioritization in an acute care setting Infection prevention and safety compliance
