Job Description

Corpus Christi Medical Center seeks a PRN Registered Respiratory Therapist to deliver high-quality respiratory care across our acute and critical care units. In this patient-centered, collaborative role, you will assess and treat patients with cardiopulmonary disorders, manage ventilators and oxygen therapy, and perform arterial blood gas analysis. You'll respond to respiratory emergencies, participate in rapid response and code teams, and educate patients and families. Responsibilities Assess, treat, and monitor patients with respiratory disorders in acute and critical care settings Administer oxygen, aerosolized medications, and therapeutic respiratory treatments as ordered Set up, manage, and troubleshoot ventilators and other respiratory support equipment Perform arterial blood gas sampling, analysis, and interpretation Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team to develop and adjust patient care plans Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, therapies, and home care equipment Document all care, assessments, and interventions accurately in the medical record Respond to respiratory emergencies, including rapid response and code blue situations Follow infection control, safety, and regulatory standards for respiratory care Participate in continuing education and competency activities to maintain licensure and skills Required Skills Mechanical ventilation management Arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation Respiratory treatment modalities (nebulizers, CPT, oxygen therapy) Airway management and suctioning Pulmonary function and bedside spirometry (basic) Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation Infection control and patient safety practices Emergency response for respiratory distress and codes Patient and family respiratory education Interdisciplinary communication and teamwork
