How you'll contribute A Respiratory Therapist who excels in this role: Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer. Performs bedside PFTs, EKGs, and tobacco cessation education as ordered. Delivers and evaluates patient response to therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition appropriately. Responds to codes and emergent calls for respiratory assistance. Provides rapid assessment and appropriate intervention. Educates patients and families about illness management and community resources. Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on outcomes, research, and best practices. Stocks and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders; maintains storage areas with required levels and equipment. Cleans, sterilizes, maintains, and calibrates equipment. Participates in performance improvement and continuing education. Provides quality patient care and works flexible shifts/units as needed. Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Education:
Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy required.
License:
Certifications:

A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.
