A Speech Language Pathologist diagnoses and treats speech, language, and swallowing disorders in patients with a variety of conditions. Helps patients improve their ability to make sounds or use language, or develop non-spoken means of communication. May specialize in working with patients of a certain age group, or treat speech problems resulting from a condition such as a stroke or cleft palate. Works in schools, hospitals and other healthcare facilities and works closely with physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other therapists.

Job Description

Location:
Pembroke Pines, Florida Memorial Rehabilitation Institute provides highly specialized care ranging from complex multiple trauma, stroke and brain injury to physical and speech therapy. Inpatient care is offered at Memorial Regional Hospital South, with outpatient care available in five different locations. We also have a home health team and resources for long-term care at Memorial Manor, while also offering therapy for pediatric developmental diagnosis through Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.
Summary:
Evaluates and treats patient populations for speech-language pathology needs.
Responsibilities:
Plans and/or assists with patient discharge from therapy services.

Educates and counsels patients and families regarding treatment plans and progress. Provides information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and support resources.

Designs and implements a plan of care which is appropriate to issues identified, required frequency of treatments, and involves the patient/family.

Performs and documents initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition.

Supervises and mentors activities of peers, fellows and other support personnel.
