- freedom to explore life skills Requirements for this Position Team members must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily.
- Administer specific components of a speech and language program as specified in treatment plans developed by the SLP.
- Meet goals and objectives listed on the treatment plan
- Perform only those tasks that are within the scope of responsibilities of the SLPA and are tasks the SLP has determined the SLPA has the training and skill to perform.
- Self-identify as SLPAs (Assistants) to families, students, patients, clients, staff, and others.
- Assist the SLP with speech, language, and hearing screenings without clinical interpretation.
- Assist the SLP during assessment of students, patients, and clients exclusive of administration and/or interpretation.
- Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP.
- Document student, patient, and client performance (e.g., tallying data for the SLP to use; preparing charts, records, and graphs) and report this information to the supervising SLP.
- Comply with The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations, reimbursement requirements, and SLPAs' responsibilities.
- Utilize authorization logs provided by the Director of Therapy to plan a daily schedule of billable therapy meeting or exceeding 22 units.
- Complete all required documentation in a timely manner
- therapy notes, ISP input, comments for report cards, etc.
- Become familiar with students' ISP goals in order to consult with teachers regularly regarding methods or strategies to target those goals.
- Provide input for the annual ISP document regarding a student's performance on their previous goals and make suggestions for future goals (if applicable).
- Attend ISP meetings as requested
- Initiate and participate in collaboration with teachers as necessary
- Mentor SLPAs new to the organization
- Develop whole group and small-group therapy programs in the classroom
- Collaborate with other SLPAs to problem-solve obstacles in therapy (client behavior, materials, therapist time-management, etc)
- Collaborate with the Dir of Therapy quarterly to report the status of the ST department and devise ways to improve it
- These responsibilities are in addition to those typical for an SPLA at Life Skills Academy Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Active license through the FLDOH. Work Context

- Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as computers, software, electronic mail, and telephones.
- Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines.
- Requires face-to-face virtual discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams.
- Requires work with students, internal and external contacts, parents, and with the public.
- Physical Environment
- Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions, and outdoors for dining and some classes.
- Requires sitting, standing and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects frequently weighing up to 20 pounds and infrequently weighing more than 20 pounds.
