Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Oral Surgery Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. In this vital role, you will support oral surgeons during surgical procedures, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and efficient workflow. Your expertise in dental assisting, infection control, and medical documentation will contribute to delivering exceptional care in a fast-paced environment. Duties Prepare treatment rooms with necessary dental instruments, surgical supplies, and sterilized equipment following infection prevention management protocols. Assist the oral surgeon during procedures by handing instruments, managing suction, and maintaining a clear operative field using aseptic techniques. Take and develop dental X-ray images, including 3D scans and intraoral images, ensuring accuracy and adherence to radiation safety standards. Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft or CareStack ensuring all documentation complies with HIPAA regulations. Monitor vital signs and patient comfort throughout procedures, providing compassionate care and addressing patient concerns promptly. Process dental instruments according to sterilization procedures to maintain clinical confidentiality policies and infection control standards. Educate patients on post-operative care instructions, medication protocols, and oral hygiene practices to promote optimal recovery. Experience Previous experience working in a dental clinic setting is highly preferred, especially within oral surgery or general dentistry environments. Proficiency with dental assisting techniques such as four-handed dentistry and chairside assisting is essential for seamless procedure support. Familiarity with dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging devices is required. Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and clinical confidentiality policies ensures accurate communication and documentation. Experience with healthcare infection prevention and control practices demonstrates your commitment to maintaining a safe clinical environment. Ability to operate patient management software like Dentrix or Eaglesoft efficiently is necessary for managing medical records and scheduling. Certification in dental assisting or related fields enhances your candidacy; ongoing training in endodontics or prosthodontics is a plus.
