Job Description
Wellstar Health System is seeking a Lead Surgical Technologist for our Columbia County team. In this role, you will coordinate and assist in surgical procedures, ensuring sterile techniques, appropriate instrumentation, and patient safety. You will serve as a clinical resource, precept new staff, and collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers. Responsibilities include case preparation, equipment troubleshooting, maintaining supplies, and supporting quality and safety initiatives. You'll model Wellstar's compassionate, patient-centered culture and help drive continuous improvement in surgical services. Responsibilities Prepare operating rooms with appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment Serve as lead technologist, coordinating case flow and supporting team members Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques during surgical procedures Anticipate surgeon and team needs, passing instruments and supplies efficiently Troubleshoot and operate surgical equipment safely and effectively Precept, mentor, and support orientation of new technologists and staff Monitor and maintain inventory of surgical instruments and supplies Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia to optimize patient outcomes Follow all safety, infection prevention, and regulatory standards Participate in quality improvement, training, and process enhancement initiatives Required Skills Sterile technique and aseptic practices Surgical instrumentation and equipment operation OR case setup and room turnover Infection prevention and control Intraoperative patient safety practices Electronic medical record and OR documentation systems Inventory and supply management for ORTeam leadership and staff mentoring Communication and collaboration with surgical teams Troubleshooting and basic maintenance of surgical equipment
