Shelter Veterinarian Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Shelter Veterinarian to oversee veterinary care at our animal shelter and low-cost spay/neuter clinic. This role involves providing high-quality veterinary medicine, surgery, and animal care while ensuring adherence to professional ethics. The veterinarian will operate a flexible schedule, allowing for additional low-cost surgeries for the public and humane euthanasia of old or sick public owned pets. This position offers an opportunity to run a personal veterinary clinic within the shelter environment without the overhead of traditional practice. Duties Perform veterinary medicine including diagnosis, treatment, and preventative care for shelter animals. Conduct veterinary surgeries, including spay/neuter procedures at our low-cost clinic operating four days a week. Manage veterinary internal medicine and companion animal medicine to ensure optimal health outcomes. Provide veterinary dentistry services as needed to maintain oral health of animals. Oversee and perform humane euthanasia for animals that are old or suffering from illness, ensuring compassionate care. Run the local low-cost spay/neuter clinic with a flexible schedule, allowing for additional surgeries for the public as comfortable. Collaborate with veterinary technicians who handle scheduling, client communication, and other administrative tasks. Maintain accurate medical records in compliance with professional standards and regulations. Uphold professional ethics and ensure all veterinary practices prioritize animal welfare. Skills Proven expertise in veterinary medicine, surgery, internal medicine, and dentistry. Strong commitment to animal care and welfare. Excellent surgical skills with experience in spay/neuter procedures. Ability to perform humane euthanasia compassionately when necessary. Professional ethics and dedication to high standards of veterinary practice. Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate additional surgeries or emergencies as needed.
