Description:
This is a very part-time, as-needed position designed to provide flexible coverage for the campus snack bar. This coverage usually takes place in the evenings and weekends. Perfect for earning supplemental income or for a college student! The Tuck Shop Attendant plays a vital role in the daily life of Pomfret School by providing a welcoming, efficient, and clean environment for students, faculty, and staff. This position is responsible for the daily operations of the campus snack bar, ensuring excellent customer service, accurate transaction processing, and the preparation of high-quality food and beverage items. The ideal candidate will be friendly, dependable, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment while upholding the school's community standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Customer Service & Operations:
Greet all students, faculty, staff, and visitors with a friendly and positive attitude. Take food and beverage orders accurately and efficiently. Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system, process payments (cash, student accounts, credit cards), and provide correct change. Respond to customer inquiries about menu items, ingredients, and dietary restrictions knowledgeably and courteously. Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally, escalating issues to the supervisor when necessary.
Food & Beverage Preparation:
Prepare, cook and serve food items according to established recipes and portion sizes. Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages (e.g., coffee, tea, smoothies) to quality standards. Ensure all food and beverages are served at the appropriate temperatures and presented appealingly.
Health, Safety, & Cleanliness:
Maintain a consistently clean, organized, and sanitized work area, including counters, equipment, and dining spaces. Strictly adhere to all local, state, and school health and safety codes, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures. Routinely clean and maintain equipment (e.g., coffee machines, microwaves, refrigerators), counters and floors according to established schedules. Perform opening and closing duties as assigned, ensuring the snack bar is secure and ready for the next shift.
Inventory & Stocking:
Monitor inventory levels of food, beverages, and supplies throughout the shift. Restock display cases, condiment stations, and coolers as needed to ensure product availability. Rotate stock using the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) method to minimize waste and ensure freshness.
Additional Duties:
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the overall functioning of the snack bar and dining services.
Schedule & Hours As-Needed Coverage:
Shifts will be assigned based on coverage needs.
Maximum Hours:
Up to 20 hours per week.
Flexibility:
Ideal for candidates seeking occasional shifts rather than a set, daily schedule.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in food service, retail, or customer service is highly desirable. Basic math skills and experience with cash handling and POS systems. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation principles (ServSafe certification is a plus).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours). Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions.
