This entry-level role offers a unique opportunity to develop specialized skills in Japanese cuisine, focusing on sushi preparation and presentation. As a Sushi Chef Trainee, you will learn the art of sushi making, food safety protocols, and kitchen operations in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. This paid position is perfect for individuals passionate about culinary arts and eager to grow their expertise in fine dining and food industry standards. Duties Assist senior sushi chefs in preparing a variety of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese dishes according to established recipes and standards Learn and practice proper knife skills for slicing fish, vegetables, and other ingredients with precision and safety Support food preparation activities including rice cooking, fish poaching, braising, grilling, and food handling techniques Operate kitchen equipment such as sushi rollers, knives, refrigerators, and sanitation tools following food safety sanitizing procedures Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sushi station and overall kitchen area in compliance with food safety management protocols Participate in menu planning discussions to understand ingredient selection and presentation styles for authentic sushi dishes Follow recipe adherence guidelines to ensure consistency in quality and presentation during meal preparation Assist with catering events or high-volume production tasks as needed to support restaurant operations Experience Previous dietary aide experience or food service experience preferred but not required; training will be provided for motivated candidates Exposure to fine dining or restaurant environments is advantageous Familiarity with food safety practices and sanitizing procedures is beneficial Basic knowledge of food industry standards related to food handling, preparation, and kitchen equipment operation is desirable Strong knife skills or culinary experience involving food production techniques such as braising, grilling, poaching, or meal preparation is a plus Experience in catering or high-volume food production environments will support success in this role Demonstrated interest in culinary arts with a willingness to learn new skills within the sushi cuisine specialty Join us as a Sushi Chef Trainee and embark on an exciting culinary journey where your passion for food meets professional growth.
