Job Description

Job Description We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Sushi Chef / Sushi Prep Clerk to join our team in the Oceanside / Carlsbad area! In this role, you will prepare high-quality sushi rolls, nigiri, and combos for daily retail display in a busy supermarket kiosk environment. Because this is a retail market operation, work takes place during morning and early afternoon hours, allowing you to finish your day early with consistent, predictable shifts!
Key Responsibilities Morning Production:
Cook and season sushi rice, slice fresh fish (Salmon, Tuna, Ebi), and prepare daily ingredients for morning display stocking.
Rolling & Packaging:
Roll, cut, pack, and label fresh sushi rolls, nigiri, and specialty combos into retail display packaging.
Merchandising:
Keep retail display cases fully stocked, clean, and neatly arranged throughout the morning and early afternoon hours.
Sanitation & Food Safety:
Maintain a clean workspace, sanitize stations/knives, and strictly adhere to California food safety guidelines.
Receiving:
Assist in checking in incoming inventory (rice, seaweed, proteins, packaging) and keeping storage organized.
Qualifications & Requirements Communication:
Basic English required (ability to read order lists, product labels, and communicate effectively with team members and store staff).
Certifications:
Start:
Valid California Food Handler Card required upon hire. Within 30-60
Days:
Food Safety Manager / Supervisor certification is required (we can guide you through obtaining this certification!).
Experience:
1+ years of sushi making or high-volume food prep experience preferred (we will train candidates with strong knife skills and kitchen prep backgrounds!).
Skills:
Good knife handling, speed, precision, and consistency in roll preparation.
Schedule:
Must be available for morning and early afternoon shifts.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for your shift and lift up to 50 lbs (rice bags, delivery boxes).

Competitive Pay:
$18.00 - $25.00/hr based on experience.
