Job Description
Job Purpose Capable of preparing and executing recipes for all menu items in the Cafe offered daily, to include soups, salads, sandwiches, daily special etc. Responsible for standard food preparation and service work including sanitation duties, and various serving responsibilities. Has knowledge of proper food handling procedures and government regulations regarding the food code. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the food industry. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. May lead and direct the work of others. Works under immediate supervision of the Executive Chef Food Preparation and Service Works closely with Executive Chef to assist in research and planning of daily menu items, as well as for special events Preparation/Service of balanced meals Assists with monitoring inventory and ordering as per kitchen needs Ability to interpret, develop and execute recipes Maintains a clean, sanitary and neat work space Proper and safe use of all kitchen equipment including slicers, ovens, grills, steamer and stoves Maintains a professional manner at all times Serves and communicates with customers attentively and in a polite, courteous manner Performs other job duties and projects, reasonably related to business, as requested by senior staff Be prime point of contact for café in absence of Executive Chef Management and Training Assistance with training of cafeteria staff including prep cook, front-end server, and dishwasher. Aids in management and overseeing other staff members Manages staff in the absence of Executive Chef Performs other job duties and projects as directed Competencies and Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Minimum 2 years of related experience preferred Some food preparation and presentation skills preferred Ability to train entry level workers as needed Knowledge of kitchen equipment and proper use instructions Reliability and positive work ethic Demonstrate willingness to grow in position including attendance of training classes outside of normal business hours Excellent oral, written and organizational communication skills Valid driver's license with clean driving record Ability to take direction Strong team player Performance and project management skills preferred This Company is an Equal Employment Opportunity Agency and will give all qualified applicants consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
