Position Title:
Community Assistant Schedule:
4 days, 30 hours/week (occasional evenings and weekends as needed)
Compensation:
$19.00 - $21.00 per hour Role Summary The Community Assistant/Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for residents, families, staff, and visitors at Solvang Retirement. This role supports the Executive Director and community leadership while engaging directly with residents to ensure their needs are met promptly and with care. Success in this position requires flexibility, problem-solving, strong people skills, and a willingness to "pitch in" wherever needed. Key Responsibilities Front Desk & Communication Answer phones and greet visitors with professionalism and warmth. Direct calls and messages promptly and accurately. Resident Support Assist residents with in-apartment issues such as TVs, internet, phones, and basic maintenance & Housekeeping (e.g., clogged toilets, light messes). Support new move-ins by orienting them to the community and ensuring their needs are met. Setting up, leading and supporting activities. Back up 12 passenger van driver (must have valid Oregon Driver's License) Community & Operations Support Work directly with vendors and contractors. Assist community directors with administrative and operational tasks. Provide coverage for the Executive Director during absences including on-call duties for issues and staffing. Participate in marketing event set-up, breakdown, and coordination including some weekend & evening events. Staffing & Training Assist with onboarding new employees, including paperwork, orientation, and training. Support resume screening and basic staff development activities. Train as a server to assist in the dining room as needed (with occasional shift extensions until 6:30 pm). Train as a cook to assist in the kitchen as needed (with occasional shift extensions until 6:30 pm) Flexibility & Engagement Adjust schedule for occasional morning, evening, or weekend events. Adapt daily tasks to meet the changing needs of the community and residents. Stay active and available—must be comfortable being on your feet for extended periods. Working closely with other community assistant to cover each other (Illness and vacations) Qualifications Prior experience in customer service, hospitality, or senior living preferred. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to "think on your feet." Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Basic technical aptitude (phones, TVs, internet, troubleshooting). Ability to manage multiple priorities and stay organized in a fast-paced environment. Being able to adjust to doing different things each day depending on needs of the community Reliable, flexible, and team-oriented with a resident-first mindset. While desk and administrative tasks are part of the role, much of the day involves interaction with residents, staff, and community life.
