Job Description

Cheaha Regional Head Start/Early Head Start Join Our Nutrition Team! Cheaha Regional Head Start/Early Head Start is seeking a dependable and hardworking Substitute Cook to provide nutritious meals and snacks for children when regular kitchen staff are unavailable. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a kitchen, cares about children's health and nutrition, and takes pride in maintaining a clean and safe food service environment. What You'll Do Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks following USDA and Head Start guidelines. Follow approved menus and accommodate food allergies and special dietary needs. Maintain accurate meal counts and food production records. Properly store, label, and handle food and leftovers. Monitor and document refrigerator and freezer temperatures. Maintain accurate food, supply, and equipment inventory. Inspect and receive grocery and supply deliveries. Keep the kitchen clean, sanitary, organized, and inspection-ready. Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health requirements. Wear required hair restraints and gloves when handling, preparing, and serving food. Assist with routine kitchen cleaning and equipment maintenance. Report equipment, safety, or pest control concerns promptly. Work cooperatively with the Nutrition Manager and Center Director. Treat children, families, and staff with professionalism and respect. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
High School Diploma or GED At least 1 year of related experience Ability to obtain and maintain ServSafe Certification Must be at least 21 years of age Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and walk for extended periods Ability to follow food safety and sanitation procedures Reliable attendance and punctuality
Preferred:
Previous food service, school nutrition, child care, or Head Start experience What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is: Dependable and flexible Organized and detail-oriented Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen Committed to food safety and cleanliness Able to work independently and as part of a team Respectful and professional when working with children, families, and staff Transportation Requirements If personal transportation is required for agency-related duties, employees must: Be at least 21 years of age Have a valid driver's license Pre-Employment Requirements Employment is contingent upon successful completion of: State and Federal criminal history background checks Child Abuse and Neglect Registry check Pre-employment drug screening Employees are also subject to applicable ongoing screenings and annual evaluations.
