Job Posting Food Service Cook Vicksburg Community Schools 2026-2027
School Year Salary:
Per VESPA Contract Position Summary We are seeking a dedicated individual to add to our food service team as a Cook. This position works 6:30am-1:30pm, Mon-Fri, student days only, approximately 35 hours per week. Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook meals according to established menus and nutritional guidelines
  • Assist with food preparation, including washing, chopping, and portioning ingredients
  • Ensure proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices are followed
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, work areas, and serving spaces
  • Support meal service and interact positively with students and staff
  • Monitor inventory and assist with ordering supplies as needed
  • Follow all health department and school district regulations
  • General kitchen tasks as assigned by the kitchen supervisor and food service director.

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must be ServSafe certified; or obtain ServSafe certification within 90 days of hire
  • Must have a good attendance record.
  • Must possess good decision-making skills.
  • Must be flexible in work assignments.
  • Must have experience in the preparation of school meals.
  • Must have a commitment to working as a team to achieve goals.
  • Must demonstrate sociability and warmth in attitude toward students, other employees, and the supervisor.
  • Must have a moderate level of math skills and be able to operate computerized machines.
  • Must pass background checks and comply with state and district requirements for working with students. Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and move about the building and campus to assist students.
  • May require and employee to lift and/or move heavy objects (up to 50lbs).
  • May require an employee to stand for extended periods of time.
