Job Description

Pit Master / Back of House / Prep Cook The Pig Out Inn BBQ - Natchez, MS The Pig Out Inn BBQ is looking for a hard-working, reliable, and motivated Pit Master / Back of House team member to join our kitchen team. We are looking for someone with a great attitude who is willing and eager to learn. Experience in BBQ, cooking, or restaurant work is encouraged but not required — we are willing to train the right person. This position is a hands-on role that involves working around a 100% wood-burning BBQ pit , preparing and cooking food, maintaining food safety standards, keeping the kitchen clean, and helping provide a great experience for our customers. Pay & Hours $8.50-$11.00 per hour + a portion of tips , depending on experience Starting at approximately 20-30 hours per week Opportunity for additional hours based on performance and business needs Morning shifts start at 7:30 AM Closing shifts start at 3:00 PM and may run past 10:30 PM Weekend and holiday availability may be required What You'll Do Build and maintain fires in our 100% wood-burning BBQ pit Smoke meats and monitor the pit throughout the cooking process Rotate and manage meats on the pit to ensure proper cooking Prep food and ingredients for daily service Cook and assemble food according to restaurant standards Learn to cut and serve BBQ on the cutting line in front of customers Work efficiently and manage your time during busy periods Provide friendly and professional customer service when working around guests Keep the kitchen, prep areas, equipment, and workspaces clean and organized Follow proper food safety and food handling procedures Help with basic maintenance and upkeep of certain kitchen equipment Maintain proper inventory rotation using FIFO (First In, First Out) Work safely with raw meats and other food products Help with other kitchen and restaurant duties as needed Food Safety & Handling A strong understanding of proper food safety is important for this position. You must be willing and able to follow procedures including: Proper handwashing Wearing gloves when required Preventing cross-contamination Proper handling of raw meat Maintaining proper food temperatures and understanding time/temperature controls Keeping work areas and equipment clean and sanitary Proper storage and FIFO rotation of inventory ServSafe certification is not required, but is encouraged. What We're Looking For Hard-working and dependable Reliable and punctual Positive attitude and willing to learn Able to work independently and as part of a team Able to think critically and make good decisions Comfortable with basic counting, measurements, and keeping track of cooking times Good time-management skills Able to stay focused and productive during busy periods Comfortable working around customers Restaurant, BBQ, cooking, or kitchen experience is a plus, but not required Physical Requirements Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (including cases of meat, logs, and heavy food inventory) Must be able to stand and work on your feet for extended periods Must be comfortable working in a warm/hot pit environment Must be able to safely perform the physical duties required in a busy BBQ restaurant About The Pig Out Inn BBQ The Pig Out Inn BBQ is a local BBQ restaurant in Natchez, MS , serving great barbecue in a fast-paced, friendly environment.
