Player 1 Academy is a STEM-centered childcare and early learning center committed to providing children with a safe, healthy, nurturing, and engaging environment. Nutrition is an important part of that experience, and we are looking for someone who takes pride in preparing meals that are healthy, appealing, safe, and appropriate for young children. The Part-Time Cook will be responsible for meal preparation, kitchen cleanliness, food safety, inventory organization, and assisting the center in maintaining required food-service and childcare standards. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys cooking, works well independently, and wants a consistent part-time position in a positive childcare environment. Duties and Responsibilities The Part-Time Cook will be responsible for preparing and serving meals and snacks while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen.

Responsibilities include:

Prepare breakfast, lunch, and/or snacks according to the center's daily menu and schedule. Prepare nutritious and age-appropriate meals for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children as needed. Follow established menus, recipes, portion sizes, and meal-service procedures. Prepare meals that are visually appealing and appropriate for young children. Follow all food-safety, sanitation, and hygiene procedures. Maintain a clean and organized kitchen at all times. Clean and sanitize food-preparation surfaces, counters, sinks, equipment, and appliances. Wash and properly store dishes, utensils, pots, pans, trays, and food-service materials. Properly store refrigerated, frozen, and dry food items. Monitor food temperatures and storage conditions. Label and date food items according to proper food-safety procedures. Check food supplies and notify management when items need to be reordered. Assist with maintaining food and kitchen inventory. Help receive, organize, and properly store food deliveries. Monitor expiration dates and rotate food inventory appropriately. Minimize food waste while ensuring appropriate portion sizes. Follow procedures related to food allergies and dietary restrictions. Carefully review allergy information before preparing or serving food. Prevent cross-contamination during food preparation. Work with childcare staff and administration to ensure meals are delivered to classrooms on schedule. Maintain required kitchen, meal, sanitation, and temperature documentation. Keep refrigerators, freezers, cabinets, pantry areas, and storage areas clean and organized. Maintain a safe kitchen environment and immediately report damaged equipment or safety concerns. Follow Player 1 Academy policies and procedures. Follow applicable New York State childcare, health, sanitation, and food-service requirements. Assist with kitchen cleanup after meals and food preparation. Support special events, celebrations, or center activities that may require food preparation. Maintain professional and respectful communication with center staff and administration. Qualifications We are looking for a dependable individual who is comfortable working in a childcare environment and preparing meals for young children.

Preferred qualifications include:

Previous cooking, kitchen, food-service, childcare food-service, cafeteria, restaurant, or institutional food-preparation experience. Experience preparing meals for children is strongly preferred. Knowledge of basic food preparation and kitchen safety. Knowledge of proper food storage, sanitation, temperature control, and prevention of cross-contamination. Understanding of food allergies and dietary restrictions. Ability to follow written menus, recipes, and portion guidelines. Ability to maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen. Strong organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple meal-preparation tasks efficiently. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Ability to communicate effectively with childcare staff and administration. Must be able to successfully complete any required background checks, clearances, medical requirements, and training associated with employment in a licensed childcare program. Food Handler, ServSafe, or similar food-safety certification is a must. Must be able to stand for extended periods. Must be able to bend, reach, lift, carry, and move food supplies and kitchen equipment. Must be able to safely lift typical food-service supplies and containers.
