OVERVIEW
Join the team at -385 Grill & Campground as a Cook and be part of a fast-paced grill and campground operation in the heart of the Black Hills. Located directly on US-385 outside Deadwood, South Dakota , -385 combines a campground, bar and grill, outdoor patio, and seasonal entertainment into one unique destination. During the summer and especially during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally our kitchen can move fast, and we need cooks who are dependable, organized, and ready to work as a team. We are looking for someone who takes pride in the food they prepare, keeps a clean and organized kitchen, communicates well with coworkers, and knows how to problem-solve instead of becoming overwhelmed when things get busy . You don't have to know everything on day one, but you do need to be willing to learn, work hard, communicate, and contribute to the team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and cook menu items according to -385 recipes, portions, and quality standards. Maintain consistent food quality, presentation, and ticket accuracy. Complete daily food preparation and keep stations stocked and ready for service. Follow proper food storage, labeling, FIFO rotation, temperature control, and sanitation procedures. Safely operate kitchen equipment, including fryers, grills, refrigeration, and other equipment. Maintain proper portion sizes to help control food costs and reduce unnecessary waste. Keep cooking stations, prep areas, utensils, equipment, floors, and kitchen surfaces clean and organized throughout the shift. Monitor inventory and communicate when ingredients or supplies are running low. Assist with receiving, storing, and organizing food deliveries when needed. Work efficiently during high-volume service while maintaining quality and food safety standards. Communicate respectfully and professionally with servers, bartenders, management, and other kitchen employees. Help teammates when your station is caught up rather than waiting to be asked. Identify problems and work toward a solution instead of simply complaining about the issue. Complete opening, shift-change, and closing responsibilities as assigned. Follow all -385 Grill & Campground policies and management direction.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Previous restaurant, bar & grill, catering, or commercial kitchen experience is preferred , but attitude, dependability, and willingness to learn are equally important.
The ideal candidate:
Has experience with food preparation and basic cooking techniques. Understands—or is willing to learn—safe food handling and sanitation practices. Can safely and efficiently use knives and commercial kitchen equipment. Can manage multiple tickets and priorities during busy service periods. Remains composed and productive when the kitchen gets busy. Shows up on time and ready to work. Takes initiative and doesn't need to be constantly supervised. Communicates directly and respectfully with coworkers and management. Accepts coaching and takes responsibility for mistakes. Looks for solutions when something isn't working. Takes pride in maintaining a clean, organized kitchen. Understands that every position contributes to the guest experience. Food handler certification is preferred or must be obtained if required.
