Job Description
The primary location of this position is on-site in Cullowhee, NC. This position is designated as being subject to the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (SHRA). The Special Events and Residence Coordinator supports the day-to-day care and coordination of the Chancellor's Residence, and selected Chancellor-level events at Western Carolina University. This position helps ensure the appearance, functionality, maintenance, and hospitality of the Chancellor's Residence while assisting with planning, coordination, and on-site support for residence-based and Chancellor-related events. The Special Events and Residence Coordinator works closely with Facilities Management, University Police, Parking and Transportation, vendors, contractors, and campus partners to help keep the Residence guest-ready and to support well-coordinated events. The position also provides front-facing support for the Chancellor's Division by interacting professionally and discreetly with trustees, faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, community members, elected officials, and distinguished guests. This position requires professionalism, personal accountability, flexibility, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Because the Chancellor's Residence serves as both a private residence and an official university event venue, the Special Events and Residence Coordinator may need to respond to facility and event needs outside standard business hours, including evenings and weekends. Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position Ability to support residence operations, facility appearance, light housekeeping, inventory, and event-readiness in residential and public-facing settings. Strong organizational, planning, and attention-to-detail skills, including the ability to balance multiple assigned priorities and use technology tools to support scheduling, communication, documentation, and reporting. Excellent interpersonal, hospitality, and customer-service skills, with the ability to interact professionally and collaboratively with supervisors, colleagues, campus partners, guests, donors, trustees, students, faculty, staff, and community members. Sound judgment, professionalism, discretion, and flexibility, including the ability to maintain confidentiality and respond to residence or event-related needs outside regular business hours, including evenings and weekends. Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
