Position Overview:
Director of Beverage Production (Tier-5) is responsible for overseeing and managing all functions and activities related to beverage production at Devil's Canyon Brewing Company. The position provides guidance and education for the beverage production team. The position facilitates beverage production while maintaining a secure, sanitary, world-class beverage manufacturing facility and operating and maintaining all pertinent equipment. This includes the selection of raw materials; continually improving processes to reduce errors and improve quality, consistency , and efficiency; identifying improvements to existing equipment or identification of new equipment that increases capacity, improves efficiency, quality, and new product requirements. This position collaborates on new product development, marketing efforts, special events, development of department standards, people development, and companywide strategies.
Brewhouse Operations:
Produce beverages per recipe for both Devil's Canyon and Contract breweries. Troubleshoot and problem solve. Keep concise and accurate logs/notes, including all adjustments or actions performed. Coordinate spent-grain pickups when needed to ensure availability of empty grain bins for upcoming brew days.
Fermentation and Cellar Operations:

Continual Process Improvement:
Continually strive to improve processes and increase efficiencies in all areas of beverage production. Review, implement, follow and create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regularly to ensure documentation, accuracy, and suggest edits. Ensure all quality checks are performed each shift. Collect grist check samples, wort gravity, pH, microbiological testing samples, yeast samples, and related testing. Assist in recipe development for seasonal and specialty beverages.
General Duties:
Manages, mentors, and develops a diverse team of employees and creates an environment which engages and inspires the team to achieve results at the highest levels. Strong communication and effective working relationship with the product development team in the planning and introduction of new products into production. Examples include scaling recipes to production, raw material and process experiments and providing unified leadership and development of the brewing staff. Responsible for planning for future needs of the department (ex. brewing equipment, facilities, personnel, and process modifications) to improve quality and efficiency of operations. Responsible for budgeting within brewing and cellar departments including the preparation of the annual budget and management of expenses. Oversees training of all personnel regarding brewing science as appropriate. Accountable for production SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), safety, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) compliance. Works with executive team to determine, measure and report on KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and goals within operations. Accountable for contract production quality, efficiency, cost and billing. Complies with brewery safety practices, policies and procedures and actively promotes safe work practices. Communicate with Devil's Canyon Management and contract accounts to ensure timely arrival of materials for scheduled brew days and packaging days. Ensure proper inventory rotation. Have fun!
Additional Requirements:
Passionate and responsible about beer. Planning and execution of daily and weekly tasks. Experienced operator of canning, bottling, and labeling lines, including maintenance and troubleshooting. Experience with pumps, glycol systems, boilers, basic electrical, basic plumbing and facilities maintenance. Experience with pasteurization systems preferred. Dedication to quality and efficiency with an excellent attention to detail.-Monitor several batches simultaneously and maintain strict quality metrics. 7+ years of experience operating commercial brewing and packaging systems ranging in size with both manual and automated brewing experience. Ideally, a formal brewing qualification or degree (Siebel, Weihenstephan, ABG, Davis, OSU, IBD diploma, etc.., or equivalent) Completed a Bachelor's degree in food production, chemistry, biology, business, engineering or business.
