Job Overview and Opportunities Sapwood Cellars is seeking a versatile, mechanically minded person to join our team. This position splits time between commercial brewing operations (wort production, cellaring, canning, and bottling) and routine preventative maintenance and facilities upkeep across both our brewhouse, tasting room, and commercial kitchen. Brewing & Packaging Responsibilities (~3 Days/Week) Assist with hot-side wort production, brewhouse operation, and post-brew CIP. Tank cleaning, sanitization, and beer line cleaning according to SOPs.

Operate and monitor packaging runs:

canning, bottling, crowlering, and labeling. Wash and purge kegs. Disassemble, clean, sanitize, and rebuild sanitary valves, Tri-Clamp fittings, and transfer pumps. Assist with materials and cold/warm storage organization (grain, hops, packaged cans, and kegs). Maintenance & Facilities Responsibilities (1-2 Days/Week or as-needed)

Mechanical & Equipment Servicing:

Follow preventative maintenance schedules, including oil and filter changes on air compressors, servicing glycol chillers, swapping pump seals/gaskets, and troubleshooting beer production mechanicals (seamer, bottle fillers, etc.).

Tasting Room & Kitchen Support:

Diagnose and repair issues with draft equipment, ice machines, glass washers, coolers, and other taproom/kitchen appliances. Basic MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing): Handle minor plumbing fixes (leaks, drain unclogging, valve/gasket replacements, water filter swaps) and light electrical tasks (replacing switches, outlets, cords, and lighting fixtures).

Carpentry & Handyman Tasks:

Complete general building repairs, mount hardware, hang shelves, repair furniture, touch up paint/drywall, etc.

Facility Upkeep & Tool Management:

Keep the tool bench, spare parts inventory, and maintenance logs organized; regularly clean HVAC intakes, compressor filters, and refrigeration condenser coils. Requirements & Qualifications 1+ years of cellar or professional brewery experience preferred. Proven mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience using hand and power tools to troubleshoot equipment, appliances, or building fixtures. Basic working knowledge of air compressors, pneumatics, draft systems, and minor electrical/plumbing repairs. Strict adherence to safety protocols when working with high-pressure systems, hazardous chemicals, and moving machinery. Strong self-direction, organization, and problem-solving skills. Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain). Physical Requirements & Availability Ability to lift 50+ lbs. Ability to work comfortably on ladders, in tight mechanical spaces, and in wet, hot, or cold production environments. Full-time (80 hours biweekly). Must be available for occasional weekday evenings or weekend hours as packaging and maintenance needs dictate.
