Thursday - Sunday primary operating days (weekends and select holidays required; occasional availability required outside core operating hours); weekly Wednesday managers meeting (can be phoned in remote if desired). About Us We are a small, family-owned brewery nestled in rural Powhatan, Virginia. We are primarily a hospitality establishment, and beer, wine, and food are a big part of our focus here. We take pride in serving high-quality, craft-focused food alongside exceptional beers that are brewed on site and locally produced wines; in a warm, welcoming, family-friendly environment. Because we operate with a tight-knit, small team, we work closely together across every aspect of the taproom experience. Everyone pitches in, supports one another, and contributes to creating a hospitable community hub for our guests. Position Overview We are seeking an energetic, reliable, and food-minded Taproom Manager to bartend with and lead our daily front-of-house operations. As Taproom Manager, you will be the face of our taproom, responsible for being the lead bartender, delivering outstanding guest experiences, managing taproom flow, leading staff, and ensuring our food and beer offerings are presented with excellence. Because our taproom is open Thursday through Sunday , your core working days will align with our open hours. Weekend availability is a must, as well as select holidays (we are closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day so our team can spend time with family). Key ResponsibilitiesTaproom Operations & Guest Experience Oversee day-to-day front-of-house operations during open hours (Thursdays-Sundays), ensuring a smooth, welcoming, and efficient environment. Maintain high standards of customer service, organization, cleanliness, food safety, and draft line maintenance/pour quality. Work closely with the kitchen/culinary team to ensure flawless food service, menu presentation, and guest satisfaction. Must be able to understand and run private events when needed; although that will be a task assigned to other staff. Handle customer feedback, resolve issues with the right candor, and foster a loyal regular guest base. Team Leadership & Collaboration Lead, train, and mentor taproom staff and bartenders in craft beer knowledge, menu items, service standards, and POS operation. Build staff schedules (FOH), manage labor efficiency, and assist with hiring/onboarding when needed. Communicate regularly with the general manager, brewer, head chef, and owner. Foster a collaborative, positive team atmosphere where everyone supports each other in a close-knit working environment. Inventory & Administrative Manage taproom inventory, including retail merchandise, glassware, to-go beer & wine, and non-alcoholic beverage stock. Manage info@ email with brewery inquiries. Assist with POS system updates, menu changes (beer & food), and daily cash management/reporting. Navigating & solving issues with POS when they arise. Maintain compliance with state and local ABC laws, health safety regulations, and proper food handling guidelines. Occasionally manage or assist with special events, live music, or private gatherings (including preparation/set-up outside regular taproom hours).
Qualifications & Skills Experience:
2+ years of leadership or management experience in a restaurant (preferred), brewery, or hospitality environment preferred.
Food & Beverage Passion:
Strong interest in craft beer and food pairing/service. Experience in a food-focused hospitality environment is highly desirable.
Availability:
Must be available Thursdays through Sundays, weekends, and select holidays. Flexibility for occasional meetings, events, or inventory tasks outside normal operating hours.
Leadership Style:
Hands-on leader who isn't afraid to pour beers, bus tables, or run food during busy shifts.
Communication:
Excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly, community-oriented demeanor.
Requirements:
Must be 21 years or older. Ability to lift/move kegs (up to 160 lbs with assistance) and stand for extended periods. ServSafe and Virginia ABC certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
