Position Summary:

The Host / Hostess is responsible for creating a warm and welcoming first impression for guests and supporting the overall guest arrival and seating experience. This role manages check-in, reservations, waitlists, seating, and front-of-house communication. When assigned by management and appropriately trained, a Host / Hostess may assume primary responsibility for the host stand and dining room flow when a Maître D is not scheduled. The Host / Hostess also assists with guest service and other front-of-house duties to help maintain smooth operations, organized service, and a positive dining experience

Responsibilities:

Greeting guests warmly and professionally upon arrival, creating a positive first impression. Manage guest check-in, reservations, and waitlists accurately. Provide guests with accurate wait times and keep them informed throughout their experience. Escort guests to tables and present menus if applicable. Manage and update seating charts to optimize dining room flow and efficiency. Communicate effectively with servers, management, and kitchen staff regarding seating and guest needs. Monitor restaurant activity to determine seating availability and pacing. Respond to guest inquiries, requests, and concerns in a timely and professional manner. Assist with reservation systems and ensure all guest information and special requests are noted. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the host stand and entrance area. Set up restaurant candles prior to service and collect them at the end of service if applicable. Carry trays of beverages and other service items to guest tables as needed. Assist with takeout operations, including guest pickup and payment processing through Shift4, as needed. Assist with folding napkins as needed. Assist clearing off table or helping get table set up for guests as needed during peak times. Support overall front-of-house operations to ensure smooth service. Complete nightly report if applicable. Following all SOPs regarding logging and communicating lost and found items. Provide friendly, attentive, and professional service at all times. Follow all company policies, procedures, and service standards. May assist with the on-the-job training of new Host / Hostess team members when assigned by management Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

Previous host or customer service experience preferred, ideally in a fine dining or hospitality setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment. Excellent attention to detail. Professional demeanor with a positive, guest-focused attitude. Ability to work well under pressure and handle stressful situations calmly. Strong problem-solving and solution-oriented mindset. Basic knowledge of reservation systems and Microsoft Office preferred. Dependable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (8 hours or more). Ability to walk, move quickly, and navigate throughout the restaurant. Ability to push, pull, and open doors as needed. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Ability to push, pull, lift and carry up to 20 pounds Ability to walk up and down stairs as needed.
