Job Description
Position Summary The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the housekeeping and environmental services department to ensure a clean, safe, sanitary, and comfortable living environment for residents, staff, and visitors. This position leads housekeeping personnel, enforces state and federal infection prevention standards, and ensures all sanitation and cleaning procedures strictly comply with Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) regulations, CMS guidelines, and OSHA standards. Key Responsibilities Operations & Staff Supervision
- Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate housekeeping personnel in proper healthcare sanitation techniques.
- Develop and manage daily work schedules and assignments to ensure continuous 24/7 environmental support.
- Conduct and document routine quality assurance inspections of resident rooms, common areas, nursing stations, dining facilities, offices, and restrooms. Infection Control & Regulatory Compliance
- Enforce strict compliance with ADPH infection control guidelines, OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standards, standard/transmission-based precautions, and CDC guidance.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, dilution, and disposal of EPA-registered healthcare-grade disinfectants and cleaning chemicals in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and state regulations.
- Supervise the safe segregation, handling, transport, and disposal of medical waste and biohazardous materials pursuant to Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) and ADPH rules.
- Collaborate with the Infection Preventionist and Quality Assurance Committee to participate in routine audits, mock surveys, and state regulatory inspections. Environmental & Facility Care
- Ensure resident rooms and common areas remain free of environmental hazards, pest activity, standing liquid, and excessive debris.
- Manage housekeeping chemical and equipment inventory; order supplies as needed while maintaining safe locked storage per state safety mandates.
- Respond promptly to resident, family, and nursing staff for requests or concerns regarding sanitation and room cleanliness.
- Collaborate with maintenance and nursing leadership to coordinate deep-cleaning schedules, discharge cleanings, and floor maintenance. Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of housekeeping experience in a healthcare setting (skilled nursing facility, hospital, or assisted living facility).
- At least 1 year of supervisory or team lead experience.
- Knowledge of healthcare-grade sanitation procedures, chemical safety, and specialized cleaning equipment.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English clearly to ensure safety compliance and effective team communication.
- Physical capability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs, push/pull heavy laundry and clean carts, and perform continuous standing, walking, bending, and stretching throughout the workday.
