Located in the heart of historic downtown Charleston, our sister properties (91 total rooms) operate under a shared commitment to excellence comparable to AAA 5-Diamond and Forbes 5-Star standards. Position Summary The Director of Housekeeping is a multi-property executive role responsible for directing, managing, and elevating the daily operations of the entire Housekeeping Department, including in-house laundry operations, across both The Spectator Hotel and the French Quarter Inn . Reporting directly to the General Manager, this position oversees the overall direction, coordination, quality control, and financial performance of housekeeping operations. The ideal candidate is a proven leader with an unyielding eye for detail, dedicated to maintaining flawless cleanliness standards while cultivating a supportive, guest-centric work culture. Core ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership & Quality Assurance Direct and oversee daily housekeeping and in-house laundry operations across both properties (91 total rooms). Ensure guest rooms, corridors, public spaces, back-of-house areas, and laundry facilities meet AAA 5-Diamond and Forbes 5-Star standards of cleanliness and maintenance. Establish, monitor, and enforce a rigorous, proactive inspection program for all guest rooms and public areas. Analyze guest feedback, online reviews, and quality assurance reports across multiple channels; communicate findings to the team and implement immediate corrective action plans. Facilitate real-time, seamless communication with the Front Desk regarding room status, rush turnarounds, and check-out tracking to maximize guest satisfaction and room availability. Team Leadership, Hiring & Talent Development Directly manage supervisors/assigned staff and indirectly lead all department subordinates across both hotels.
Direct all departmental personnel activities:
interviewing, hiring, scheduling, task delegation, performance management, addressing complaints, and resolving service issues. Lead, inspire, and mentor staff to perform at the highest levels of luxury service while fostering an inclusive environment that genuinely cares for associates and guests alike. Provide continuous hands-on training on luxury service protocols, safety standards, and efficiency best practices. Financial Performance & Inventory Management Understand the department's financial impact on overall hotel goals; develop and execute strategies to optimize productivity and control operating costs without compromising quality standards. Conduct regular inventories of linen, terry, guest room amenities, cleaning chemicals, and operational supplies to ensure adequate stock levels while minimizing waste. Assist in vendor management and order supplies within budget parameters. Cross-Departmental Collaboration & Administration Maintain open lines of communication with Maintenance, Guest Services, and Senior leadership to promptly address repairs and operational needs. Enforce all company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements consistently. Participate in Manager on Duty (MOD) rotations as scheduled. Perform other reasonable, job-related duties as requested by the General Manager. QualificationsExperience 3-4 years of hotel operational experience required, with at least 1 year in Housekeeping operations. At least 2 years of hotel managerial experience required ( Director-level experience strongly preferred ). Previous leadership experience in a luxury, boutique, or high-end service environment strongly preferred. Technical Skills & Systems Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Strong technical adaptability to learn hotel operational software quickly. Prior experience with RoomKey PMS and ALICE task-management software preferred. Interpersonal & Administrative Skills Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational, administrative, and time-management capabilities. Performance-driven, assertive, self-motivated, and accustomed to high-volume luxury operations. Proven ability to build positive team morale, resolve conflicts, and maintain professional composure under pressure. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Ability to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and move continuously throughout the shift.
Flexible availability required:
must be willing to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and other shifts driven by business demand in a luxury hotel environment. Pay:
$80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
